Grady Sew Along – Day 2 – Front Construction
It’s DAY 2 of the Grady Sew Along! Yesterday you should have cut out all your fabric, so everything should now be prepped and ready…which means it’s time to start sewing! Today is all about front pockets, slant or curved, however you technically can skip front pockets all together if you must, but they are so cute! (and not too complicated, I promise!) You will find links to each pocket option down below under VIDEOS.
If you are just tuning in, you will find everything you need to know in the INTRO post down below.
Slant pockets are typical for chino or dress pant styles and curved pockets are typical for jeans, however you can mix and match all of the options for a custom look.
If you are doing some heavy grading, it might be helpful to baste the pants/shorts together first before cutting out the slant or curve on your front piece, especially if you need to alter the rise. If you baste first, it will be a lot easier to shorten the rise if it ends up being too long. Remember that the tip of the pants has a 5/8″ seam allowance and the waistband will add an additional 1-1.25″ on the rise as well.
Once you finish today’s task, hop on over to the Sew A Little Seam FB group to show everyone those beautiful pockets! (Remember, this is also your entry for the daily giveaway!)
If you have any questions, you are more than welcome to comment below or in the SALS FB group as well.
Don’t forget – we are having daily giveaways each day of the sew along for a free Sew A Little Seam pattern, so be sure to comment on today’s Sew Along FB post for your entry. Winner will be announced tomorrow on the next Sew Along FB post.
Happy sewing!
