Grady Sew Along – Day 1 – Prep Day
Hello and welcome! Today is the first official day of the Grady Sew Along! I am so excited you’ve decided to join me this week! It’s going to be packed full of fun, so I hope you stick around. Today is an easy day, but there is still quite a bit to do. It’s Prep Day! (If you are just now tuning in, head on over to the INTRO link below for all the details and what you need to know.)
Now, let’s get started!
Sew Along Outline
Day 1: Prep Day
- Print your pattern (if you haven’t done so already)
- If you don’t have a copy of the pattern yet, you can grab it HERE. Be sure to use code GRADY20 at checkout for 20% off the pattern during the sew along!
- This is a TRIM pattern. Print at 100% on Auto Portrait/Landscape. (The image will be centered on your print display) Also, make sure the box for *choose paper source by pdf* is NOT checked. It will mess everything up if it is.
- Since there are a LOT of pieces, depending on your option, I highly suggest using the layers feature and print only the size(s) that you need. There also is a print chart in the instructions that is quite handy, that way you only print the pages that you need.
- Grading is your friend! Yes, it’s extra work, but so worth it. (Though you don’t have to grade in for the high hip if you are planning on any of the elastic versions. If the hips are in a bigger size than the high hip, just use the pant size for the hips and the elastic measurements that correspond to the high hip measurement.)
- Cut out your pattern
- Keep the pieces handy since you most likely will need one (or more!) of the pieces later during construction.
- Cut out your fabric
- If your fabric is directional, make sure you pay extra attention while cutting out your fabric.
- Make sure you give your fabric a nice, quick press before you start cutting. It will make all the difference when cutting it out
- Iron on interfacing and mark notches according to the beginning pattern instructions (page 11 and 12)
- Note – you can also do some of this later.
- Comment on today’s FB post with a picture of your pants/shorts all cut and ready to sew! (If you have any questions, go ahead and ask those on that post as well.) This post will also be pinned in the announcements or search for #gradysal.
And that’s it! Don’t forget – we are having daily giveaways each day of the sew along for a free Sew A Little Seam pattern, so be sure to comment on today’s Sew Along FB post for your entry. Winner will be announced tomorrow on the next Sew Along FB post.
Come back tomorrow and we will tackle the front pockets!
Happy sewing, cheers!
