Spring Style Maker Tour 2021
I am so excited that I was invited to join the 2021 Spring Style Tour hosted by Style Maker Fabrics! There is such a good line up this year and so many pretty fabrics! Here in Arizona, we have really nice winters but once the weather warms up a bit, everything starts blooming! We have citrus trees in our yard (and all over our neighborhood) and the smell of blooming citrus lets me know that spring is officially here. Everyone participating in the tour got to pick out a few of the new spring prints to sew up and share for the tour. I picked the gorgeous fabrics below. Michelle gifted these to me to sew for the tour, along with some matching coral thread!

One of my goals for 2021 is to sew more wovens. I tend to stick with knits because they are so quick! Usually I can start sewing after the kids go to bed and finish before I go to bed. Those are my favorite! But woven makes have a different kind of gratification once they are finished and I am SO glad I decided to sew up the Megan Neilsen Brumby skirt for my Tencel Twill. First off, I LOVE TENCEL TWILL! It’s so soft and dreamy. It’s a fabulous bottomweight. A little heavy (perfect for pants, skirts, jackets, etc.), the drape is amazing and it is so incredibly soft. I want all of the Tencel Twill.
Anyway, the Brumby skirt! I kept going back and forth on which pattern I wanted to use for the tencel once I had it in my hands and I am SO glad I went with this skirt. I don’t always enjoy the actual task of gathering, but I love the finished product on just about every gathered skirt/dress I make. The design of the pockets is super cute and I love the zipper detail! It’s definitely not the easiest zipper to sew, but the end result is so cute! I’m really glad I went with a light grey zipper too. I love everything about it! Well, except hemming, let’s be real. Just don’t look too close… at least it looks great on the right side! I sewed up a size 8, based on my waist measurement and shortened the version B (Midi length) by 2 inches.
The other fabric I picked for the tour is the heather stripe french terry. I love stripes and I love french terry! One of my favorite cardigan patterns is the Cocoon Cardigan from Patterns for Pirates. It’s a great basic and it’s such a quick sew. One of the things I take pride in with this cardi is my stripe matching. Can you even see my pockets? They totally blend in! I sewed up a size small in the tunic length with the shorter band. The last time I sewed this cardigan and topstitched around the band, I broke a needle. I’m happy to report that I didn’t break one this time! (but I did bend one)
Last but not least I sewed up some Mid Weight Cotton Jersey in white. This fabric isn’t part of the spring release but it seriously tied this whole look together! It’s so white! I can’t get over how crisp the fabric is. It’s a little on the thicker side, which is perfect. I hate when I want to wear a light colored shirt with a pair of jeans and you can totally see the jeans through the shirt! I live in Arizona and it get’s hot, so I prefer to not have to add layers with an undershirt. I definitely didn’t have that problem with this shirt!
I sewed up the Hepburn, also from Patterns for Pirates, in the shirt length and short sleeves. I sewed up a size small, graded to medium waist and x-small hips. The only adjustment I made outside of grading was shortening the neckband. The neckband has a lot of gabbing for me, so instead of making it even more narrow, I just cut the height in half. I actually prefer it this way anyway, so it’s a win/win! Also, if you look closely, you can see the special detail I added! After sewing up the skirt and then the cardigan, I had just enough coral thread left to use for hemming the sleeves and topstitching the neckband. I LOVE IT. It is such a fun and subtle detail that gives it a little something extra.
I absolutely love how this all turned out. Hair, makeup, lighting, outfit. The lighting was perfect. It’s usually hard for me to hit the treasured golden hour because of my crazy kids. It’s right around dinner/bath/bedtime and I have no pretty places to take pictures at my house! Luckily, we were visiting family for a wedding and my hubby’s grandparents have the perfect little side yard for pictures and the sun sets in just the right spot. Winning! And my MIL put my daughter to bed, so double winning! My absolute favorite part about this outfit is the mixing and matching. It’s like a teeny tiny capsule wardrobe and there are so many different things I’ll be able to pair with these 3 new items!
Don’t forget to check out everyone else on the tour! <3
