Fabric
I used Star French Terry from Mily Mae Fabrics. This particular print is no longer in stock but there are loads of fabric that would work for these overalls! You can check out the other french terry prints here!
Recommended Fabric: Medium to heavyweight knits with good recovery and some stability, at least 25% stretch, and some vertical stretch
Instructions
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes! I typically have no issues with M4M instructions.
You will definitely need to use your sewing machine for certain parts of the construction to get everything looking super nice.
Here’s a little trick to do when sewing the straps to help reduce some bulk!
- Sew the short edge with your serger.
- Fold the short edge down along the seam allowance
- Sew the long edges with the short edge folded down
Depending on your fabric, you may want to go over with your sewing machine to make sure your stitch lines are straight. Now, when you turn your strap out, the corners will look a whole lot nicer. You’re welcome!
Pattern
DID IT LOOK LIKE THE PATTERN PHOTO/DRAWING ON THE PATTERN ONCE YOU WERE DONE SEWING?
Yes it did
WHAT DID YOU PARTICULARLY LIKE OR DISLIKE ABOUT THE PATTERN?
I love love love overalls so of course I like these. The strap to back construction is also a lot easier than another overalls pattern I have.
I sewed up another pair in ponte and sewed the back pockets. I lowered them a tad and I would probably lower them a bit more. That’s the main thing I don’t like is how high the back pockets are, but that is more personal preference.
Here is the pair I made in Ponte from So Sew English. The stability of this fabric is GREAT for a pair of overalls! (Ignore my straps. I need to trim them. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with them when I made these and then finally decided on hardware!) Topstitching this fabric though was a huge pain in the rear and now I want to upgrade my coverstich machine to something with more room to the right of the needle. The 1″ mine has is great for hemming, but stinks for everything else!
WOULD YOU SEW IT AGAIN? WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS?
Yes and yes! I sewed the Rad Patterns overalls a few years ago and though I do like them, the strap construction on the Zoey’s is so much easier and definitely more beginner friendly.
