Joggerathon – Rad Patterns – Couch Potato Joggers

It’s jogger no.23 on the Joggerathon! Can you believe it?! We are at the home stretch! The Couch Potato Joggers from Rad Patterns features a tapered leg with a cuff, an elasticated waistband (optional drawstring), and a long, 7/8 or cropped length option. There are two pocket to choose from, (side seam or zippered), depending on your preference and two rise options (regular and a lower pregnancy rise).

Price: $10.00

Size Range: 12 sizes //XXS-6x // 33″-80″ hip

Options Sewn:

  • XS graded up to a Sm at the waist, elastic waistband, side seam pockets and long length. I also shortened the rise by about 2″ since the pattern is drafted for a height of 5’7. I did not shorten the inseam since it seamed fine after measuring the pattern pieces (no inseam measurement listed).

My Measurements:

  • Waist – 27
  • High Hip – 31
  • Hip – 36
  • Upper Thigh – 21
  • Inseam – 28
  • Height – 5’4

Fabric

The fabric for this pair is Lavender Leopard French Terry from Olga’s Closet. This fabric is medium weight, 2 way stretch, 220 gsm and a poly/rayon/spandex blend (90/7/3).

Recommended Fabric: Designed for use French terry, double knit, or similar fabrics with at least 20% stretch across the grain.

Instructions

Were the instructions easy to follow?

  • Yup! Instructions were great
  • I don’t love that the waistband elastic is sewn and topstitched to the waistband before it is attached to the pants. I prefer to make a casing and topstitch after (easier to sew IMO)

Pattern

DID IT LOOK LIKE THE PATTERN PHOTO/DRAWING ON THE PATTERN ONCE YOU WERE DONE SEWING?

Yup! After completion this looked similar to the listing photos. (though my cuffs look a smidge smaller)

WHAT DID YOU PARTICULARLY LIKE OR DISLIKE ABOUT THE PATTERN?

  • The pattern is drafted for someone who is 5’7 and I’m 5’4. I didn’t change the inseam at all but I feel like it’s a little too short (by maybe 1/2″) for me with a 28″ inseam, so I feel like it would be too short for someone who is taller (unless it’s supposed to be a little short?)
  • I would have preferred the top of the pocket to be a little bit lower, rather than right up against the waistband. Luckily this is easy to adjust in the future.
  • I also don’t like adding elastic to the waistband before sewing it to the pants, but that’s easy enough to just sew it in the order of my preference.
  • I like that, even though these joggers are more of a relaxed fit, the cuffs don’t feel super wide and loose.
  • Rad drafts for a person who is 5’7, so I shortened the rise on these by about 2″. This was perfect!
  • I did the waistband how it is in the pattern except I sewed it in a different order. It’s just easier for me to sew the band on first, thread the elastic in the casing and then add the topstitching. This has you topstitch the waistband with the elastic before attaching it to the pants. My machine doesn’t like the bulk of the elastic under half of the pressure foot. It always tries to get the elastic out of the way lol. So it’s easier and looks nicer to just sew the waistband and then thread the elastic through.
  • I still don’t like inseam pockets

WOULD YOU SEW IT AGAIN? WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS?

This is a great relaxed jogger pattern that doesn’t feel too loose and is size inclusive. If I were to sew it again, I’d have to change the pockets to be slant instead of inseam but I would recommend it to others.

Have you sewn up the Couch Potato Joggers? What are your thoughts? I’d love to know in the comments below! If you missed the Patterns for Pirates – Mama Bear Joggers yesterday, you can check that out HERE. Don’t forget to come back tomorrow for the Arcadia Joggers from Stitch Upon A Time!

Cheers!
