Joggerathon – Pattern Niche – Carita

Another day, another pair of joggers! Today for the next slim fit is the Carita Joggers from Pattern Niche (formerly New Horizon Designs). The Carita Jogger actually doesn’t mention anything about the fit on the website listing or pattern instructions. The listing photos look more on the slim side though, which is why I included them with the slim fits this week.

The Carita’s have 2 leg lengths, capri and ankle, and 3 different inseam lengths (29, 31, 33). These joggers have a tall waistband (that can be folded down) along with an optional drawstring as well as optional banded curved front pockets.

Fabric

I used Lush Double Brushed Interlock from The Fabric Snob in the Ore color way. This fabric is nice! It’s on the thicker side but the stretch is great. The recovery is good but it is not ideal to use on a waistband without elastic. It’s a 95/5 cotton spandex interlock knit, approximately 240gsm and 68-70″ wide. It has 75-100% horizontal and 25-50% vertical stretch (depending on the color).

Recommended Fabric: Stretch fabric with at least 35% horizontal and 5% vertical stretch. At least 50% stretch and excellent recovery for the waistband

Instructions

Were the instructions easy to follow?

  • No issues with the actual instructions
  • One thing I don’t like about the instructions is the size chart. Size 00 and 0/2 are the only sizes with a size range for waist and hips.

Pattern

DID IT LOOK LIKE THE PATTERN PHOTO/DRAWING ON THE PATTERN ONCE YOU WERE DONE SEWING?

Some of the photos on the pattern listing look quite snug and mine definitely don’t fit that tight. I feel like mine looks similar to how the line drawing looks though.

WHAT DID YOU PARTICULARLY LIKE OR DISLIKE ABOUT THE PATTERN?

  • One of the main things with these is that I have some weird excess fabric at the crotch/upper thigh.
  • The waistband is way too tall for my preference on joggers. (I love a high waistband for leggings though!) The instructions do say that you can fold the waistband down for a shorter rise, but I feel like that would be too narrow of a waistband.
  • I like the pockets on these a lot better than some of the other joggers that I sewed.

WOULD YOU SEW IT AGAIN? WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS?

After sewing up all the different jogger patters, I would not sew these again. There are other ones that are super similar that just fit me better. If I were to only pick one pair of joggers, I wouldn’t pick these but I know a lot of people do love this pattern.

Have you sewn up the Carita Joggers? What are your thoughts? I’d love to know in the comments below! If you missed yesterday’s post for the Patterns for Pirates Loggers, you can check that out HERE. Be sure to come back tomorrow to see the Yoggers from Petite Stitchery & Co!

Cheers!

Now this is a pattern that isn’t already in ny stash but that I keep eyeing whenever there’s a sale. I actually was drawn to the taller waistband feature tbh. I always have to shorten the front rise on pants so I’m thinking I should pass on this pattern.

I really love this design and make it for my daughters, grandchildren and myself. It’s my goto jogger pattern. I love the deep waistband, I feel safe wearing it lol..maybe that’s because I’m older and like big knickers too haha

I am one of those who LOVES the Caritas. They fit me perfectly. I didn’t pay attention to the instructions as to whether they were easy
To follow but I’m not the best sewist and I do well with them
