Joggerathon – Patterns for Pirates – Loggers

Next up on the Joggerathon for slim fit are the Loggers from Patterns for Pirates. Now, these have always been one of my favorites and they still are! The Loggers have 2 rise options, low and high, 2 waistband finishes, tall and yoga (with an optional drawstring), and two length options, shorts and cuffed ankle length. There also is an optional patch pocket. These are a tiiiiiiight fit. Basically a pair of joggers and leggings had a baby, definitely one of the reasons I love them so much! I’m all for all things fitted.

Instructions

Were the instructions easy to follow?

I have no issues with the instructions. There are real life photo illustrations which makes it easy to follow along.

Pattern

DID IT LOOK LIKE THE PATTERN PHOTO/DRAWING ON THE PATTERN ONCE YOU WERE DONE SEWING?

Yes it does!

WHAT DID YOU PARTICULARLY LIKE OR DISLIKE ABOUT THE PATTERN?

  • I love the Loggers! The main thing I don’t like about these are the squared patch pockets. It’s a lot easier to topstitch on my coverstitch when its curved instead of squared. (And I don’t really like squared front pockets in general. I don’t like feeling the corner point when my hands are in my pockets.) I’ll typically round out the corner of the pocket and sew it so the patch is on the inside.
  • I love the fit on these. And the stripes look so good. Don’t look too closely though, my pockets totally shifted when I sewed them on! I almost fixed because I’m crazy, but I left it lol
  • I probably didn’t need to use the Med waistband. My high hip is XS but my waist is a Med. A lot of it is probably this fabric too but Med was probably too big. (There isn’t a strong enough recovery for a waistband so I definitely will be adding some elastic to these.)
  • My back rise feels a little short, but that also could be due to the waistband not being snug enough, though I’d probably opt to make the back rise a hair taller, or just cut in between the low and mid-rise cutlines.

WOULD YOU SEW IT AGAIN? WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS?

I would definitely sew these again. I have a handful of loggers and I love every one that I’ve made so far.

If you want a hybrid of leggings and joggers, or want more of a leggings fit and want to use fabric with less stretch, these are definitely for you. I would recommend these to others.

Have you sewn up the Loggers? What are your thoughts? I’d love to know in the comments below! If you missed the Lexi Loungers from Made for Mermaids yesterday, you can view the post by clicking HERE. Be sure to come back tomorrow for the Carita Joggers by Pattern Niche (formerly New Horizon Designs)

Cheers!

In the “options chosen” section, where you write: “XS graded to M for the hips” it reads as though you made an XS waist, and a M hip, which isn’t the size you made; it’s a little confusing (but clarified later in your post)

I made the loggers twice. I love them except for the fact that they’re too tight on my calves (I didn’t grade, but I need to, but there’s no calf mark o. The pattern), and for me the waist was too big- like I need to add elastic.

Whoops! I’ll go fix that! M for the waist 😆
I think I went back and added elastic to most of my loggers. I also like my waistbands to feel more secure. At least for me, I grade my calf starting a little above where the cuff line is but it is a lot easier when there is a calf mark. I don’t feel like many of the patterns I sewed actually had a marker for that

    Hello !
I am planning to sew these with the exact same fabric that I happen to have except that I will use the coordinating rib knit for the waistband. Do you think I should still add an elastic and what kind would you use ?

    Thanks

    • Trissa Marie

Ohhh!! So cute! So I personally would add elastic. I would cut the waistband so the height can fit the 2″ elastic, so 5″ tall, which will account for the 1/2″ seam allowance. I would also suggest cutting in between the high and low cut line or the high rise to account for the shorter waistband compared to the original. 🙂 I hope that helps!!
