Joggerathon – Lowland Kids – Women’s Joggers

It’s the last day of the first 6 joggers in regular fit! Tomorrow I’ll be comparing them all, side by side, so be sure to come back tomorrow! Up today is the Women’s Joggers from Lowland Kids. These are a basic pair of joggers with only one option: ankle length with cuffs, back yoke, encased elastic and slant pockets.

* The Joggerathon is going on ALL month long. If you’d like to see the pattern lineup and get more information, click here! Don’t forget to vote for your favorite!

Price: $10

Size Range: 10 Sizes // XXS-5X // 32-63.5″ Hip

Options Sewn:

  • Straight size XS but lengthened it to the SM cut line for the 28″ inseam. I’m in between sized and sized down

My Measurements:

  • Waist – 27
  • High Hip – 31
  • Hip – 36
  • Upper Thigh – 21
  • Inseam – 28
  • Height – 5’4

Fabric

I used the Mauve/Navy Blue Watercolor Floral on the CLUB French Terry base. This print was on the Spring release and has since retired. You can check out all the CLUB FT prints that are currently available HERE. This is a medium weight, 95/5 cotton spandex blend that is 10-11 oz. It has approximately 50% 4-way stretch. I used the Royal Blue solid FT for the bands.

Recommended Fabric: French terry for the legs (fabric with a lot of lycra and drape, suggest sizing down). At least 60% Stretch for cuffs

Instructions

Were the instructions easy to follow?

  • Yes, the instructions were easy to follow.
  • The pockets use binding and the instructions for that aren’t in the instructions. They are linked to a blog post on the Lowland website.
  • The instructions for the waistband sounds good in theory but it’s a pain in the rear to sew. I’d highly suggest adding a seam allowance to the waistband and doing a casing to saving yourself a headache.

Pattern

DID IT LOOK LIKE THE PATTERN PHOTO/DRAWING ON THE PATTERN ONCE YOU WERE DONE SEWING?

Yes it does!

WHAT DID YOU PARTICULARLY LIKE OR DISLIKE ABOUT THE PATTERN?

  • At first I thought I was going to really like the way the waistband instructions are. You catch the elastic in the stitches when you sew the waistband to the pants. Oh my goodness, I did not like that at all!
    • First of all, it’s a PITA to sew. Yes, it’s more difficult, but it doesn’t really yield a better result…To start, you topstitch the elastic inside the waistband. Then you have to stretch the waistband with the elastic a ton to match the pants and you have to also try and pull the waistband fabric so the raw edges meet up with the edge of the elastic. I used a TON of pins and it still was a pain.
    • Secondly, my elastic was totally stretched out from all the stitches in the elastic. I used the same elastic for all the joggers and the same length and these are definitely looser. I’m most likely going to remove the waistband and sew on one with a casing since it will look a heck of a lot better. I also did use 2″ elastic instead of 3″ but I really don’t think that made that much of a difference.
  • After attaching the waistband, I have some excess fabric bunching in the back. I’m curious if that would be less noticeable if I sewed the waistband on with the casing.
  • The pattern is bubble graded, which isn’t my favorite
  • Other than the waistband, the fit is pretty good! I really like the longer cuffs. I’m not too sure how I feel about the contrasted back yoke though (I’m not loving the contrasted back yoke on any of the joggers.) I’d probably sew the same fabric as the rest of the pants if I did sewed it again.

WOULD YOU SEW IT AGAIN? WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS?

The fit is pretty good! It’s not a bad pattern for a basic fit. Be aware that the inseam and rise does change as you go up or down in size.

Have you sewn up the Women’s Joggers? What are your thoughts? I’d love to know in the comments below! If you missed the Resolution Bottoms from Love Notions yesterday, you can check them out by clicking HERE. Be sure to come back tomorrow for the regular fit comparison part 1!

Cheers!

Thank you for reviewing this pattern. I’m getting ready to sew the lowland joggers, and based on your experience with the waist band I am going make a regular casing instead of the one in the instructions. Your whole set of September joggers is awesome the way! What a great resource.
