This pattern is so stinking cute. I’ve had the pattern for awhile but it wasn’t until the children’s version was getting updated that I finally sewed it up. My favorite detail is the piping! This was my first time using it and it really wasn’t too difficult. You just get to switch between your regular and zipper foot multiple times when sewing up this cute set.
For my little man, I sewed up a size 2 top but lengthened to a size 3 and for the pants I sewed up a size 18m lengthened to a size 3 and used the size 2 elastic length. (Whew!) I originally increased the rise on the pants by 1″ (1/2″ per size), but forgot to take into account diaper ease. Size 2 and 3 have the same rise since size 2 has diaper ease and size 3 doesn’t. The diaper ease is also enough to accommodate a fluffy cloth diaper bum and my little guy only wears a pull-up at night, SO I ended up taking off the rise I added. So next time I will just add to the legs!
I think they look so cute! My son went fabric shopping with me and picked out some sweet construction vehicle fabric, but they only had 1 yard and 15″, so I also got some solid orange to pair with it and some black piping. It’s going to be so cute and he is going to LOVE IT.
Buttonholes this time around were SO GOOD. My new sewing machine (Juki HZL-f300) sews buttonholes a million times better than my previous sewing machine. I feel like these pajamas are more detailed than my latest sews since I’ve been doing more basics lately.
There’s now a Women’s version of the Holiday Pajamas! I know a lot of folks have been waiting ever so patiently for this pattern to release. This is the first time I made either version and if you know me, you know I typically like to avoid woven’s.
Kelly is an amazing designer to test for so of course I’m always willing to help test her patterns, regardless of what they are. So naturally, I had to jump in! And good thing too because this pattern is great!
The main difference with the women’s version is there is a gown option! Isn’t it so stinking cute? Though, if I make the gown again, I will add just a smidge of length, mainly for personal preference, and the next one will definitely be short sleeved with some drapier fabric (I don’t wear a whole lot of fleece where I live). Don’t forget about the piping! I’m pretty sure that’s my favorite part on the entire set.
I sewed up a size 4 and graded the hips down to a 2, except I’m an idiot and didn’t actually need to grade down! I’m so used to grading my hips down on the Constance, so it basically was second nature to me. Though, it would have made it slightly easier if I would have skipped grading.
The one thing I did forget on this is the pocket! I still need to go back and add it in. I saw someone add pockets to the bottom of their shirt, which was really cute. I might do that on the next one for my son.
Anyway, if you are intimidated on sewing this up, don’t be! The instructions are SO good. A confident beginner can definitely tackle this project.
Happy sewing!
