5 out of 4 – Easy Tee & Dress
Have you heard?! The Easy Tee & Dress from 5 out of 4 Patterns is only $5 for this weekend only! I love this pattern! It has 3 different necklines (crew, scoop and v-neck), multiple sleeve lengths with optional cuffs, and multiple cut lines from a shirt down to a bit of a swing dress! This pattern only requires light to medium weight fabric with at least 25% horizontal stretch, which means there are so many fabric options!
I started out making the crew neck, maternity front with a curved hem. This pattern isn’t super fitted, so I ended up ripping out the side seams and recutting the front to be the regular one instead of the maternity. There was just a little too much extra fabric for my belly. (I much prefer skipping maternity modifications if possible because it means I can wear the shirt postpartum for even longer wear! And I don’t particularly enjoy gathering…) I’d probably opt for the maternity front for the regular hem cut line though to make sure the shorter shirt hem will fit over the bump, but no need with the curved hem! I also HATE hemming curved hems, so naturally I added a rolled hem on all of my curved hem versions! But I LOVE the look of a rolled hem, so it’s a win/win!
This super cute DBP cactus fabric is from KNITPOP!
And then I made another one! Also DBP but I scored this fabric at a discount fabric store in my area. I seriously love it! I need to make baby girl something in the fabric so we can match once she’s here! Most likely the Brynn!
And then I couldn’t resist this daisy fabric! This one is probably my favorite! And baby girl already has a Brynn to match! I almost didn’t have enough of this fabric! Luckily it has good 4 way stretch and that this pattern doesn’t have a lot of negative ease. I ended up having to cut one of my sleeves in the wrong direction in order for this all to fit and I barely had a strip long and wide enough for the neckband. You can’t even tell and it all worked out, so it doesn’t even matter! haha.
So this pattern has a dress option, but it’s more of a swing/a-line type dress. Not my favorite type of dress. Solution? Extend the curved hem tee to a dress! I basically traced the curve of the shirt, lined it up to the bottom where the dress hem line is and then traced the rest of the top and connecting the side seams together. I did this for both the front and the back piece. The length is PERFECT. However, I don’t particularly like how high the curve comes up my leg (mormon girl problems), so I’m going to retrace it with a slightly more shallow curve so the point is a little lower. But this dress as is would be amazing in some French Terry and a swim/beach cover-up! It’s now officially on my list of things to make!
