How To: Lengthen Your Pattern Using the Slash & Spread Method
I’ve had a handful of people ask for some help on lengthening a pattern using the slash and spread method, so I made a little video showing how I do it! Since all patterns will increase at different rates, make sure you are checking to make sure you have the correct amount to add. The amounts I used in the video are for this specific pattern, so the specific amounts most likely won’t apply to you.
If your pattern doesn’t tell you how much the size increases/decreases between sizes, you can always measure the length of the size you are making in width and the length of the size you need to lengthen your pattern to, take the difference and that should be the amount you need to add. Also keep in mind that it most likely won’t be the same amount for the bodice, sleeves, legs, crotch, etc, so make sure you are double checking everything beforehand! (Hopefully that all made sense…)
